The Bakau Islamic Development Foundation on Friday distributed food items to 85 vulnerable families in Bakau as part of its annual Ramadan charity initiative aimed at supporting struggling households during the Muslim fasting month.
The beneficiaries, including widows, the elderly and other needy members of the community, received food items such as bags of rice, cooking oil and sugar to help them prepare meals for Iftar during Ramadan.
Speaking at the event, the President of the foundation, Alhagie Nuha Touray, said the organisation was created to promote community solidarity and provide assistance to those facing hardship.
He explained that the foundation’s activities are not limited to Ramadan but extend throughout the year to support vulnerable people.
“Our intention is to come together and support each other with the little that Allah has blessed us with,” he said, noting that members make regular contributions which are used to assist the poor, widows and other people facing difficulties.
Touray added that the foundation also plans to support patients in hospitals, assist mosques with their needs and provide help to children who have lost their fathers.
The Vice President of the foundation, Imam Alieu Touray, commended members and donors for their continued commitment, noting that the initiative had grown steadily since the foundation was established.
Another speaker, Imam Seedy Joof, called on community members and well-wishers to support the foundation’s efforts to assist vulnerable people.
Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the support, saying the assistance has helped many families during Ramadan.
The Bakau Islamic Development Foundation said it remains committed to strengthening community solidarity and continuing its humanitarian activities beyond the Ramadan period.
