Medina United, Falcons FC, Real de Banjul, Gambian Dutch Lions and Fortune Football Club all recorded important victories as the GFF First Division League (Vista Bank–Baluwo Official Partner) entered Week 15 on Tuesday.
Medina United inflicted Hawks FC’s first home defeat of the season at Kabakel in what proved to be a disappointing evening for the Red Devils’ defence, who conceded two avoidable goals.
Paul Colley capitalised on a defensive lapse to calmly slot home his third goal in two matches following his return from a trial with English side Nottingham Forest. Yusupha Chatty doubled Medina’s advantage in the 21st minute after another defensive error. Although Hawks dominated possession and created several chances, Medina United were more clinical on the counterattack, scoring twice in the first half to claim maximum points.
Champions Real de Banjul continued their resurgence with a 2-1 victory over Steve Biko at the Live Your Dreams Academy Field in Basori.
Amara Camara delivered a precise through pass to Modou Lamin Darboe, who fired into the bottom right corner in the 20th minute to give the City Boys the lead. Sidiki Jawara extended the advantage with a free-kick from the edge of the box that took a deflection, leaving the goalkeeper rooted to the spot.
Steve Biko pulled one back deep into stoppage time when Ebrima Marena floated in a free-kick that Adama Dem headed into the left side of the net, but it proved to be a mere consolation.
At the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium, Alpha Omar Sowe’s goal one minute into the second half secured a narrow 1-0 win for Fortune over Team Rhino FC, with the Petroleum Boys holding on to earn a crucial three points.
Elsewhere, the Gambian Dutch Lions returned to winning ways courtesy of a 10th-minute strike from Cherno Jallow, which was enough to defeat Samger FC at the Dimphy’s Memorial Football Complex in Fabara Bantang.
Falcons FC also secured all three points after Ebou Jarju received a pass on the left flank, cut inside and fired a powerful shot past Greater Tomorrow’s goalkeeper in the 26th minute at the Ousman Saho Football Field in Old Yundum.
Matches resume on Sunday when leaders Gambia Ports Authority face TMT at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium. BST Galaxy will host Hart FC at the Ousman Saho Football Field, while Bombada FC take on Brikama United in the Brikama derby at the Box Bar Mini Stadium.
