Morocco has pledged to play a key role in the reconstruction of Gaza at the inaugural meeting of the Peace Board, launched by US President Donald Trump and held Thursday in Washington.

Morocco, a founding member of the Board, was represented at the meeting by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.

Addressing the session, Mr Bourita said King Mohammed VI supports President Trump’s efforts aimed at rebuilding Gaza and called for the launch of a genuine peace process in the Middle East.

He noted that President Trump’s plan for peace in Gaza had led to a ceasefire, ended the war, saved lives and outlined what he described as a pragmatic and forward-looking approach to reconstruction.

The minister said that, in line with the High Instructions of King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, Morocco stands ready to support the work of the Peace Board in Gaza, particularly in the areas of security, health, and the promotion of tolerance and coexistence.

He stressed the need to meet the conditions of the second phase of the peace plan to ensure the sustainability of efforts, while calling for the preservation of stability in the West Bank and for Palestinians to exercise ownership of the process through their legitimate institutions.

Mr Bourita added that the stabilization and reconstruction of Gaza would help pave the way for the resumption of a genuine peace process based on the two-State solution.

The meeting was chaired by President Trump and attended by US Vice-President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, as well as heads of State and government and foreign ministers from nearly 50 countries.
