The Government of The Gambia will host the 19th General Assembly and the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Maritime Organization of West and Central Africa (MOWCA) in Banjul from 16 to 20 February.
The five-day event will take place at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara Conference Centre, with daily sessions beginning at 9:00 a.m. Organisers said the assembly will focus on maritime safety, security, governance, and sustainable regional development, while marking five decades of MOWCA’s efforts to promote cooperation among member states.
The programme indicates that expert-level sessions will open the assembly on 16 February. Ministerial meetings are scheduled for 19 February, followed by the 50th anniversary celebration on 20 February, which will be presided over by President Adama Barrow.
Officials, regional partners, and representatives from MOWCA member countries are expected to attend. The event will provide a platform to review progress, share strategies, and strengthen partnerships aimed at improving maritime operations and fostering economic growth in the region.
Established to encourage cooperation and shared prosperity in maritime affairs, MOWCA continues to serve as a key forum for coordination among West and Central African states. Hosting the assembly and anniversary celebrations highlights The Gambia’s strategic role in regional maritime development.
