A man identified as Abdou Camara on Thursday appeared before Principal Magistrate M.S. Jallow at the Brusubi Magistrates’ Court on a charge of alleged rape involving 15-year-old girl.
The accused is charged with one count of rape contrary to Section 3(1)(a) and punishable under Section 4(1)(a)(i) of the Sexual Offences Act 2013.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Buteh Sawaneh represented the Inspector General of Police, while the accused person appeared without legal representation.
According to the prosecution, the alleged offence occurred in January 2026 at Brufut, within the jurisdiction of the court, where the accused was alleged to have engaged in sexual act with a minor whose identity was being withheld for legal reasons.
The charge was read and explained to the accused and he pleaded “not guilty.”
The prosecution applied for an adjournment to enable its witnesses to testify, and the court granted the application.
The case was adjourned to 26 February 2026 for continuation.
The accused was granted bail in the sum of D750,000 with three Gambian sureties required to deposit valid national identity documents with the court registrar and demonstrate proof of means.
