Renowned Gambian artist Njogu Sait Touray is among more than ninety international artists selected to participate in the ongoing 10th edition of the Beijing International Art Biennale (BIAB) 2025 in China.
The biennale, which opened on 29 December 2025 and was initially scheduled to close on 29 January 2026, has been extended until 28 February 2026, organisers announced. According to the organisers, the extension follows approval from the China Ministry of Culture and Tourism and other relevant authorities, and aims to meet increased public interest while supporting cultural activities during the Spring Festival period.
Touray is representing The Gambia with a mixed-media artwork titled Unspoken Agreement, currently exhibited at the BIAB exhibition centre. The piece combines canvas, African fabrics and deconstructed old canvases that are sewn, shaped and glued together to symbolise unity in diversity. Threads incorporated into the artwork represent individuals as interconnected elements within a unified social fabric.
The Beijing International Art Biennale, launched in 2002, is jointly sponsored by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles (CFLAC), the Beijing Municipal Government and the China Artists Association. Over its nine previous editions, the event has attracted more than 5,000 artists from over 100 countries and more than one million visitors, establishing itself as a major international platform for artistic exchange.
Organisers say the biennale promotes peace, development and cultural dialogue through artistic expression, while encouraging innovation in traditional painting and sculpture. Alongside paintings and sculptures, the exhibition also features selected new media works, including installations and video art.
