Lamin Singateh, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Brikama Area Council (BAC) has attributed the council’s record revenue increase to improved tax compliance in the region and effective local leadership.
Speaking to The Voice newspaper on Tuesday, Singateh said adherence to financial regulations has been central to BAC’s achievements. He noted that rate collectors received thorough training to ensure compliance with financial discipline, maximizing the benefits of taxes in line with council laws.
“The main parameter for this unprecedented achievement under BAC leadership is the adherence to compliance rates,” he said, adding that the council has seen a significant increase in compliance.
Singateh also linked the revenue growth to public trust in the council’s leadership, citing Chairman Yankuba Darboe. “The message is clear: we still live by the mantra, don’t steal, don’t lie,” he said, assuring taxpayers that their contributions would be safeguarded and effectively utilized.
In a statement on Monday, Chairman Darboe reported that BAC collected D244 million in the past year, a D90 million increase over previous years. He emphasized the council’s target to raise revenue to D300 million in the coming year.
