UGF Says Gambia Needs Urgent Change in Governance

By Kemo Kanyi

The United Gambian Front (UGF) has called on Gambians to unite and urgently work towards a change of government, citing poor governance and national stagnation.

The newly launched political movement, led by Bakary K. Badjie, National Assembly Member for Foni Bintang, said it was established to liberate the country from corruption, nepotism, injustice, and bad governance, while restoring hope, dignity, and opportunity for all citizens.

In a statement issued on Monday, the party urged Gambians at home and in the diaspora to reflect on the country’s past, present, and future direction, stressing that the outcome of such reflection underscores the urgent need for change.

“The answers to these questions remind us that change is not only necessary, but it is urgent,” the statement said.

The UGF said it stands for truth, transparency, accountability, justice, and people-centred leadership, noting that achieving its mission requires collective responsibility rather than individual effort.

The party called on citizens to engage friends, mobilise communities, and raise awareness at all levels to ensure wider understanding of what it described as the country’s pressing needs.

It further encouraged Gambians to contribute physically, mentally, and financially through time, skills, or resources, stressing that every contribution matters in the pursuit of national transformation.

The UGF expressed confidence that with unity, commitment, and faith, its leader, Bakary K. Badjie, would become the fourth President of The Gambia in 2026.
