NPP Wins Two By-Elections, Cites Public Confidence in Barrow

The National People’s Party (NPP) has secured victories in recent by-elections in Kaiaf Ward, Kiang East Constituency, and Bantanjang Ward, Foni Bondali Constituency, citing sustained public confidence in President Adama Barrow’s leadership.

In a statement, NPP Deputy Spokesperson Seedy SK Njie thanked residents of both wards for their “overwhelming trust and confidence” in the party. The NPP said the results reaffirm its commitment to inclusive development and service delivery across The Gambia.

The party congratulated Councillor-elect Omar Touray of Kaiaf Ward and Councillor-elect Abdoulie Badjie of Bantanjang Ward, wishing them success in their new roles.

President Barrow described the by-election outcomes as “a referendum on leadership and national direction,” noting parallels with earlier by-elections in Niamina and Jokadou, where the NPP also emerged victorious. He expressed optimism ahead of the 2026 presidential election.

“These results reinforce our vision to transform The Gambia into a modern city-state with universal access to electricity, clean water, healthcare, education, agriculture, roads, and communication systems,” the statement added.

The NPP said the victories mark a step toward securing an absolute majority in the December 5, 2026, presidential election. Analysts and observers interpreted the outcomes as a sign of public support for President Barrow’s leadership.

The party called on members and supporters to remain united and continue mobilizing support for the national development agenda.
