The New Yundum Sports Committee (NYSC) has issued a formal apology following an incident of football hooliganism that left a match referee injured during a league game between Oslo United and Paradise FC.
In a statement, the NYSC described the incident as “unfortunate and unacceptable” and extended apologies to the West Coast Regional Football Association (WCRFA), match officials, spectators, and sports enthusiasts.
The committee confirmed that one individual involved in the physical assault on the referee is currently in custody at the Yundum Police Station, while two other suspects remain at large. The NYSC said it is cooperating fully with authorities to ensure all those responsible are apprehended and face legal action.
“The Committee had no initial intention of handing any individual over to the police,” the statement said. “However, the seriousness of the incident left us with no alternative.”
The NYSC condemned violence against referees, players, officials, and participants, emphasizing that such behavior “will not be tolerated under any circumstances.”
The committee further urged teams, supporters, and community members to respect match officials, adhere to tournament regulations, and uphold the laws of the country. It stressed that football should remain a platform for unity, discipline, and mutual respect.
“The New Yundum Sports Committee remains fully committed to safeguarding the integrity of its tournaments, ensuring the safety of all participants, and maintaining the trust of the community,” the statement added.
The NYSC concluded by reaffirming that discipline, fair play, and unity are the cornerstones of football in New Yundum, and that any form of violence undermines the sport’s values.
