A Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday fined a man D200,000 for stealing aluminium windows and glass panes from a residential property in Fajara, Kanifing Municipality.
Muhammed Tairou Jallow appeared before Principal Magistrate Sallah M’bai on multiple charges, including burglary, malicious damage to property, and theft.
Jallow was ordered to pay D200,000, or in default serve six months’ imprisonment. He was also directed to pay D18,000 in compensation to the victim. Failing to do so, he will serve an additional two months in prison.
The prosecution charged Jallow with burglary, contrary to Section 256(2) of the Criminal Offences Act, 2025. According to the charge sheet, he allegedly broke into the home of Dozie Okezie at around 5:00 a.m. in December 2025, intending to steal property.
On a second count, he was charged with malicious injury to property under Section 290 of the Act, having damaged aluminium windows and glass panes valued at D168,000. The third count, theft under Section 226 of the Criminal Offences Act (Revised Laws of The Gambia, 2025), also related to the same items.
Jallow pleaded not guilty to the first two charges but admitted guilt on the theft charge, leading to his conviction and sentencing.
