A resident of Foni Berefet District Tuesday, appeared before the Brikama Magistrates’ Court on a charge of common assault following an alleged incident in Kanuma Village.
Morro Darboe stood before , where he was formally charged with one count of common assault, contrary to Section 195 of the Criminal Offences Act, 2025.
According to the particulars of the offence, Darboe is accused of unlawfully assaulting one Sainy Gibba on or about October 18, 2025, at Kanuma Village in Foni Berefet District, West Coast Region. The prosecution alleged that Darboe struck Gibba on the face with his hand.
Darboe pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Prosecuting on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Sergeant 7232 E. Fofana applied for an adjournment to enable the prosecution to call its witnesses. He did not object to bail.
The court granted the application and adjourned the matter to January 8, 2026, for hearing.
Darboe was subsequently granted bail in the sum of D30,000, with one Gambian surety. The court ordered that the surety must deposit a valid Gambian identification card with the court registrar and depose under oath.
