The Gambian judiciary on Tuesday officially extended its Strategic Plan, reaffirming its commitment to building an efficient, accessible, transparent and responsive justice system.
The extension ceremony, presided over by Chief Justice Hassan B. Jallow, brought together justices of the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal, High Court judges, senior magistrates and heads of judicial administration.
Addressing participants, the Chief Justice said the Strategic Plan provides a structured, results-oriented framework for modernising the judiciary, adding that its implementation has already yielded measurable improvements in efficiency, transparency and access to justice.
He explained that the extension would enable the judiciary to complete ongoing reforms, deepen institutional impact and ensure the sustainability and full integration of reform initiatives across the justice system.
A workshop held alongside the ceremony provided a platform for technical reflection, strategic realignment and partnership engagement, allowing participants to review achievements, identify gaps and outline practical steps for the next phase of implementation.
Speaking on behalf of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative, the Head of Governance and Programme Specialist, Sainey Ceesay, reaffirmed UNDP’s continued support for strengthening judicial institutions and promoting governance reforms in The Gambia.
In closing, the Chief Justice expressed gratitude to development partners, notably the Government of The Gambia, the European Union and UNDP, and reaffirmed the judiciary’s commitment to the effective delivery of justice and the full implementation of its Strategic Plan in line with the rule of law.
