Man Stands Accused of Striking Woman With Broken Glass

Ensa Dampha was on Monday dragged before Brikama Magistrates’ Court on a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm. He was accused of striking a woman with a broken glass in Sanyang Village, Kombo South.

Dampha appeared before Magistrate K.B. Sambou and was charged under Section 196 of the Criminal Offences Act 2025. The prosecution was led by Sgt 4812 J. Preirra on behalf of the Inspector General of Police. The accused was not represented by a counsel.

According to the charge sheet, Dampha allegedly assaulted Aisha Sallah on or about 25 November 2025 by hitting her on the head with a broken glass, causing injury.

The charge was read in English and interpreted into Mandinka, the language the accused understands. Dampha pleaded not guilty.

Sgt Preirra requested an adjournment to allow the prosecution time to secure its witnesses. The court granted the application and adjourned the case to 28th January 2026.

Dampha was granted bail in the sum of D50,000.00 with one Gambian surety, who is required to deposit a valid Gambian identification card with the court registrar and depose to means.
