The Gambia High Commission in London has announced a call for young Gambians living in the United Kingdom to volunteer as the country’s flag bearer for the 2026 Commonwealth Day Parade, to be held in the heart of Westminster.
The opportunity is open to Gambians aged 18 to 29 and follows the proud participation of two distinguished representatives in recent years. In 2024, Mrs. Tida Mata Ceesay carried the Gambian flag alongside 56 young representatives from across the Commonwealth. Mrs. Ceesay, recognised for her academic achievements and accomplishments, represented the nation with distinction shortly before celebrating her marriage.
In March 2025, Ms. Aisha Camara continued this legacy when she served as the flag bearer during the ceremony at Westminster Abbey, further highlighting the presence and contributions of young Gambians on the Commonwealth stage.
For the 2026 celebrations, the High Commission is inviting interested young people to step forward. The Mission will cover transport costs to rehearsals and to the main event.
Organisers say the ceremony offers a valuable opportunity to meet senior politicians, policymakers, and the Commonwealth Secretary-General, as well as to network with fellow youth representatives.
Young Gambians interested in volunteering for the role of flag bearer on 9 March 2026 are encouraged to email info@gambiahc.org to express their interest.
