Humanity First – The Gambia Branch has extended disaster relief support to hundreds of victims across the country, providing food items and cash assistance to families affected by recent natural and man-made disasters.
A total of 465 beneficiaries each received a bag of rice, onions, a five-litre container of cooking oil, and a cash donation of D500.
Speaking at the climax of the distribution exercise held in Basse, Upper River Region, Mr Yankuba Sinayoko, Vice Chairman and Head of Operations of Humanity First Gambia, highlighted the organisation’s mission and ongoing humanitarian efforts.
He explained that Humanity First, founded in 1995, continues to support the most vulnerable members of society regardless of faith, gender, race, or social status.
“Among our major achievements are the construction of Masroor Senior Secondary School in Old Yundum in 2005, the provision of boreholes across the country, and the delivery of regular free medical services through visiting doctors,” he said.
Mr. Sinayoko emphasised that while relief items are essential and beneficial, “true healing and sustenance come from Allah, The Almighty.”
“Today, we stand together more than ever in the face of adversity, united in our resolve to support those affected by the recent disasters in URR and other regions. Our thoughts are with the families who have lost their homes and livelihoods,” he added.
He further noted that difficult times often reveal the resilience of communities and the compassion that binds people together. “We come together to offer aid, comfort, and hope,” he concluded.
Mr. Muhammad Lamin Jaiteh, Deputy Governor of Upper River Region, expressed deep gratitude to Humanity First for the timely and generous support, which he said would go a long way in easing the burden of affected families.
He commended the organisation for its selfless service and significant contribution to the socio-economic development of The Gambia.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Abdullah Baldeh, who lost his food store, house, and farm to a fire outbreak, also thanked Humanity First on behalf of all victims for their compassion and timely intervention.
The relief items, valued at over D300,000, were distributed to victims of both natural and man-made disasters.
Meanwhile, Humanity First recently marked its 30th anniversary with a series of global activities, including walking, running, and cycling events held simultaneously across different countries.
