The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has issued a clarification regarding a viral video circulating on Facebook showing a police officer slapping an arrestee.
In a statement dated 4th October 2025, the GPF said the video, posted by What’s On Gambia on 2nd October 2025, was an old incident that occurred in 2024, as indicated by the date and timestamp on the footage.
According to the police, the matter was promptly reported to the Police Command at the time and was dealt with in accordance with established disciplinary procedures.
The police force further noted that following the recent incident in Mandinaring, some media outlets and individuals have been sharing videos of alleged police misconduct without proper context, a trend it described as attempts to tarnish the image of the institution.
While reaffirming respect for freedom of expression, the GPF urged members of the public and the media to seek clarification from its Public Relations Office before concluding, to ensure accurate information is shared.
The statement concluded by reiterating the force’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and respect for the rule of law, as well as its ongoing efforts to strengthen public trust and cooperation.
