Three young Gambian men yesterday appeared before Brikama Magistrates’ Court, charged with assault causing grievous harm.
Sainey Manneh (first accused), Muhamed Bah (second accused), and Sainey Jarju (third accused) appeared before Magistrate M. Dem on a single count of causing “grievous harm” contrary to Section 181 of the Criminal Offences Act, 2025 Laws of The Gambia.
Sergeant 4422 M. J. Sallah announced his appearance for the Inspector General of Police, while the three accused persons were unrepresented.
According to the particulars of offence, the accused persons on or about 22nd September 2025 at Brikama, West Coast Region, jointly assaulted one Ebrima Badjie by beating him and stabbing him on the right rib with a broken bottle, thereby causing him grievous harm.
The charge was read in English and interpreted into Mandinka, the language chosen by all three accused persons.
Manneh and Jarju pleaded “not guilty,” while Bah admitted guilt to the charge.
Prosecutor Sallah applied for an adjournment, noting that the victim was still hospitalized and his health condition remained uncertain.
The case was adjourned to Monday, 13th October 2025, for further hearing. Then, the court ordered that Manneh and Jarju be remanded at Mile 2 Central Prison, while Bah be kept in police custody until the next hearing.
