The Police Regional Command in the Upper River Region (URR) hosted a delegation from The Gambia Transport Union on Friday, 26 September 2025, in a courtesy visit aimed at fostering closer collaboration between the two institutions, sources revealed.

According to Gambia Police Force (GPF), the delegation, led by Union President Omar Ceesay and accompanied by senior officials, highlighted challenges currently confronting drivers in the transport sector. These challenges included: mandatory fines, transport fares, high fuel costs, the influx of foreign vehicles, “tok tok” operations, and garage-related issues. The police noted that Mr. Ceesay also shared that the Union was developing a strategic plan to address these sectoral challenges.

The GPF further stated that during the visit, Mr. Ceesay apologized to Deputy Commissioner of Police Yerro Mballow regarding a previous statement he made against the police during a West Coast Radio Program.

In response, the police reported that Deputy Commissioner Mballow thanked the Union for their visit and welcomed the strategic plan. According to the statement, he reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the Union’s initiatives and encouraged continued collaboration with all relevant stakeholders to achieve the union’s goals and objectives.

The GPF added that the courtesy visit was viewed as a positive step toward strengthening institutional ties and promoting mutual understanding between law enforcement and the transport sector in the Upper River Region.
