The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) of The Gambia has engaged the newly-formed National Democratic Party (NDP) over the need for the party to adhere to the electoral act of the country.
According to sources, the leadership of the National Democratic Party (NDP) met with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) regarding the ongoing registration process of the party.
This paper was informed that during the meeting, the IEC advised that NDP should refrain from publicly displaying its flag, symbol, and logo until registration was formally completed.
This is in line with guidance ensuring that all political parties operate within the legal framework governing political activities in The Gambia.
“NDP acknowledges and respects this guidance. Our registration process is actively underway, and we remain fully committed to compliance with the law,” Lamin Touray, an executive member of NDP, told the Voice Newspaper.
He states that NDP recognizes and appreciates the IEC’s role in upholding a fair and orderly democratic process, adding that the National Democratic Party will continue to act responsibly and transparently as the party finalizes its registration.
Meanwhile, the NDP was established by the former national youth president of the ruling NPP, Kebba Madi Bojang, after falling out with his former party.
