The Drug Law Enforcement Agency The Gambia (DLEAG) has seized a large quantity of ecstasy pills estimated at a net price of D40 million, the agency’s mouthpiece has revealed.
According to Ousman Saidybah, the Public Relations Officer of DLEAG two suspected drug traffickers, Fallou Cham and Mariama Jawara have been arrested and taken into custody on 16 September 2025. He said a total of four hundred and one thousand seven hundred and sixty-seven (401,767) pills of suspected ecstasy were found in their possession.
He disclosed that Cham, a Gambian national, was arrested at London Corner in Serrekunda around 20:40 hours with one thousand seven hundred and sixty-seven (1,767) pills of suspected ecstasy.
DLEAG PRO disclosed that further investigation into the matter led to the discovery of eleven (11) suitcases containing eighty (80) packets of suspected ecstasy at a residence used as a bunker in Sukuta.
Mr. Saidybah also revealed that each of the packets contained five thousand (5000) pills. Officers also seized nine hundred and sixty-seven thousand and seven hundred Dalasis (D967,700.00), one hundred and seventy-five CFA (175,000 CFA), and fifty thousand Euros (50,100 euros) at Cham’s residence.
“Following up on leads as they probe into the matter, officers arrested one Mariama Jawara at her residence in Brufut,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Saidybah noted that preliminary enquiry into the matter revealed that the drugs in question were shipped from Holland.
He says that Jawara, whose husband is residing in Holland, shipped the suspected drugs to The Gambia, alleging that Jawara played a central role in coordinating the drug trafficking operations.
Mr. Saidybah discloses that the suspects are currently in custody while further investigations continue.
