Abdoulie Sanyang, a 29-year-old resident of Besse Village in the Foni region, was arraigned before Principal Magistrate Anna O. Mendy of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 16th September 2025, facing a single count of “grievous harm” offence contrary to Section 181 of the Criminal Offences Act 2025.
According to the particulars of the offence, Sanyang is alleged to have assaulted one Nfansu Badjie on 14th August 2025, at Besse Village in the West Coast Region, by stabbing him in the stomach and left arm with a knife, causing him grievous bodily harm.
When the charge was read to him in court, the accused pleaded not guilty.
Corporal E. Fofana, representing the Inspector General of Police, did not object to his bail but requested an adjournment to allow the prosecution time to secure its witnesses.
Magistrate Mendy granted the application and bail to the accused in the sum of D300,000, with two Gambian sureties who must deposit valid national ID cards or passports. The accused was also ordered to surrender all travel documents.
The case has been adjourned to 20th September 2025 for the testimony of the first prosecution witness (PW1).
