By: Isatou Sarr

The Anti-Crime Unit of Police Tuesday arrested a 38-year-old Gambian businessman residing in Salagi, for unlawful possession of gun.

The businessman Lamin Sawo was arrested by Police Anti-Crime Unit in Brufut after he was found possessing 9mm Walther Pistol (S/N BC23169595) containing nine rounds of ammunition, five expended and four live.

According to police sources, the arrest followed a tip-off on gunshots and threatening behaviour at Sawo’s residence. Upon arrival at his home, officers discovered empty cartridges and later recovered the firearm inside the suspect’s room.

The accused admitted to owning the weapon but denied firing it, claiming he had found the pistol hidden and decided to keep it for personal use.

Police confirm that Sawo is currently in custody while investigations continue.
