A community based organization in Sabach Sanjal District Saturday partnered with ML Jallow Eco Village and embarked on massive tree planting exercise in Kani Kunda Tenda to fight climate change.
The tree planting exercise was held on the side line of Kani Kunda Tenda and Social Development Association (KTYSDA)’s annual convention.
The main aim of the tree planting exercise revolves around enhancing community involvement in addressing climate change threats and promoting a sustainable future, with particular focus on community participation in combating climate change threats.
Momodou S M Naban, the Alkalo (Village head) of Kani Kunda Tenda thanked the community and KTYSDA for their unwavering support in promoting all-inclusive participation and enhancing social cohesion. Alkalo Naban noted that the move taken by the youths demonstrated their commitment and promoting community development and commitment to restoration of forest cover.
Dr. Bai Mbye Cham, President of KTYSDA said the initiative started in 2015 with the objective of Green Community Pathway Initiative through tree planting and giving trees to individuals. He noted that the association valued street and solarization and public awareness on environmental protection as part of mitigating effects climate change. Turning on to convention, Dr. Cham said the outcome of the convention was impressive as it promoted local governance, transparency and accountability. He said the incoming executive hailed the outgoing executive of KTYSDA for their contribution to the development of the community.
He used the moment to thank ML Jallow Eco Village for the donation of trees and both associations sign a Memorandum of Understanding on the restoration of forest cover.
Kumba Nyass a representative of National Environment Agency said the move would strengthen community resilient in mitigating effect of climate change. She challenged communities to support the reforestation and take good care of the 300 saplings planted
