By: Kemo Kanyi

The upcoming CAVB U18 Beach Volleyball Youth Development Cup, set to take place in Banjul from September 2–7, 2025, marks a pivotal moment for youth sports development in Africa, particularly beach volleyball.

This landmark continental event, organized by the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) in collaboration with FIVB and Olympic Solidarity, aims to celebrate youth and Olympic values while providing a critical platform for young athletes across Africa.

A Launchpad for African Talent

The tournament will serve as a powerful stage for emerging talent, allowing young athletes to showcase their skills at an international level. It is expected to uncover a new generation of beach volleyball stars and instill a winning mentality among African youth.

With participation from top U18 teams across the continent, the event offers exposure to high-level competition and international standards—key factors in athlete development.

Driving Growth Ahead of YOG Dakar 2026

More than just a tournament, the Youth Development Cup plays a strategic role in Africa’s preparations for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Dakar, Senegal. It aligns with the CAVB’s broader objective to ensure strong African representation at global competitions.

“This tournament is part of our key strategic pillars to support African youth and prepare them for events like the Youth Olympic Games,” said CAVB President Bouchra Hajij, who expressed her excitement about the event.

Hajij further noted: “This is a joint initiative of CAVB, FIVB, and Olympic Solidarity, aimed at empowering young athletes across Africa. It’s one of the most important events on our 2025 calendar, and we are working closely with the Gambia Volleyball Federation to make it a success.”

Olympic Values and Long-Term Impact

Funded by Olympic Solidarity, the tournament promotes Olympic values of excellence, friendship, and respect, while supporting long-term sports development in Africa. It acts as a stepping stone toward global competitions like the FIVB U18 Beach Volleyball World
