Man Stands Charge Of Assault With Intent to Steal

Abdoulie Gesseh, an adult Gambian appeared on Tuesday, 19th August, before Magistrate K. Bittaye of Bundung Magistrates’ Court, facing a single count of “assault with intent to steal,” contrary to Section 250 of the Criminal Offences Act 2025.

According to the particulars of the offense, on or about 10th August 2025, at Kunkujang in the West Coast Region, Gesseh allegedly assaulted Hullay Touray on her left arm with a cutlass with the intent to steal, causing her actual bodily harm.

After the charge was read to him, Gesseh pleaded not guilty.

Prosecuting officer, Cpl. 1038 H. Jatta, representing the Inspector General of Police, applied for an adjournment to secure the presence of the prosecution witness (PW1) at the next hearing and raised no objection to bail for the accused.

The court granted the adjournment and released Gesseh on bail of D100,000 with two Gambian sureties. The case has been adjourned to Wednesday, 27th August 2025, for the testimony of PW1.
