One Saidou Trawally appeared before the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 12th August 2025, facing charges of assault causing bodily harm, contrary to Section 181 of the Criminal Offenses Act 2025.
According to court documents, Saidou allegedly stabbed Samba Jallow with a cutlass and a knife on his upper back, left arm, and head, causing grievous bodily harm. The incident reportedly occurred on 4th August 2025 at Old Jeshwang in the Kanifing Municipality.
Prosecutors Inspector C.B. Jallow and Corporal B. Jarra, representing the Inspector General of Police, presented the case before Magistrate Binta M. Sowe.
The prosecution detailed that the complainant, Samba Jallow, had introduced Saidou to a marabout from Mali. Saidou was required to pay the marabout a sum of money after the charm requested was completed. However, Saidou allegedly failed to fulfill this financial obligation, leading to tensions between the parties.
Following this, Samba Jallow evicted Saidou from his compound. Despite relocating within the same neighborhood, Saidou was reportedly armed with a cutlass or knife on multiple occasions, threatening the complainant. On 4th August, Saidou allegedly attacked Samba Jallow, inflicting serious injuries.
Saidou Trawally pleaded guilty to the charge. The prosecution submitted as evidence a cutlass, a knife, the victim’s blood-stained clothes, and a medical report from Kanifing General Hospital. The items were marked as exhibits D2, D3, and D4 respectively, and accepted into evidence under Section 3 of the Evidence Act.
The case was adjourned to Thursday, 14th August 2025, for the accused to open his defense before sentencing is carried out.
