Police Confirm Two Deaths Following GTSC Bus Accident in Kalagi

The Gambia Police Force (GPF) Monday confirmed two deaths following an accident involving The Gambia Transport Services Company bus in Kalagi.

According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of GPF, Modou Musa Sisawo, two passengers died on the spot when the bus veer off and crashed in Kalagi.

PRO Sisawo revealed that the deceased was 29-year-old Yahya Mballow of Wellingara Kejew, but the second was an unidentified female.

Sisawo described the bus as bearing a registration number KM 4845 F, travelling from Bwiam towards Soma town.

He went on to say that the preliminary investigations have shown that upon reaching Kalagi, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which caused the bus to veer off the road.

“Several passengers were injured and rushed to the Kalagi Health Centre for treatment. The police are investigating the circumstances leading to the accident,” he said.

Mr. Sisawo in a statement, says that drivers “must” adhere to the “traffic rules and regulations” to avoid over-speeding. He urged all drivers to exercise caution, adhere to speed limits, and ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy at all times.

Meanwhile, The Voice Newspaper phoned the Director General of the Gambia Transport Service Company (GTSC), Seedy Kanyi, for his reactions to the fatal accident in Kalagi. But Mr. Kanyi insisted that this paper should get to his office for more information on the matter.
