Woman Convicted of Insulting President’s Parents, Fined D40,000

On July 8, 2025, the Brusubi Magistrates’ Court found Mariama Naba Darbo guilty of “giving false information and parental insult to public officers,” under Section 107(2) of the Criminal Offence Act 2025.

Appearing before Magistrate I. Jallow, Mariama Naba Darbo pleaded not guilty to the charge. The prosecution, led by ASP O. Bobb, presented three witnesses, while the defense called one.

After reviewing the evidence, the court convicted Darbo and imposed a fine of D40,000. Failure to pay will result in one month prison term.
