The Basse District Sports Committee has reported that three football fans have died in a car accident while travelling to play a match in the Basse Subzone Nawettan on Monday.
The Committee confirmed that several others, including players, sustained injuries and were referred to Bansang Hospital for medical attention. The accident occurred during heavy rainfall in the area.
“We are deeply saddened to report that Momodou Touray, Malick Sillah, and Mustapha Nyany have passed away following a fatal car accident near Fatoto yesterday. Several others remain in critical condition,” Basse Multimedia reported.
The GFF also extended its moral support, saying, “The GFF leadership has been in constant communication with our regional structures since the news of the accident broke last night. We’re deeply saddened by this devastating incident, and we pray for Allah to have mercy on the souls of the departed and grant them a place in Janatul Firdaus.”
Subsequently, the fixtures for the Basse Subzone Nawettan scheduled for Tuesday between Koba Kunda and Kuteh Jombul have been postponed.
