Lamarana Jallow has been remanded at Mile II Central Prisons as the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court awaits the appearance of the second prosecution witness in a case of malicious damage to property.

At a hearing before Magistrate M. Sowe, Sergeant D. Jammeh appeared on behalf of the Inspector General of Police and charged the accused with malicious injuries in general, contrary to Section 290 of the Criminal Code, Laws of The Gambia, 2025.

The charge relates to an incident on or about 14 January 2025 at Senegambia Garage in Dippa Kunda, Kanifing Municipality, where the accused allegedly willfully and unlawfully destroyed multiple television sets under repair. The televisions, belonging to Abdoulie Camara, included three Samsung units, three Panasonic, four LG, two Hisense, one Sony, one Beko, and one JVC television. The total market value of the damaged items is estimated at eighty-seven thousand Dalasi (D87,000).

The prosecution further detailed that the offence followed a heated dispute between Jallow and Camara. It was alleged that Camara found the accused smoking cannabis within the premises of his workshop and confronted him, asking him not to smoke near his business. The accused’s anger was reportedly aggravated by this confrontation, leading him to physically assault Camara, who did not retaliate. Subsequently, Jallow allegedly stormed into the workshop and stoned the television sets, causing significant vandalism.

In his ruling, Magistrate Sowe ordered that the accused remain in custody at Mile II Central Prisons while awaiting the appearance of Prosecution Witness Two, whose testimony is crucial for the court’s determination of bail conditions. The magistrate also stipulated that should bail be granted, the accused must provide two sureties with valid Gambian identification cards.

The matter has been adjourned to Thursday, 17 July 2025, for further proceedings.
