Two men, Alagie Manneh and Modou Jabang Tuesday jointly appeared before Brikama Magistrates’ Court on charges of ‘stealing’ contrary to Section 226 of the Criminal Offences Act 2025 laws of the Gambia.
The court presided over by Magistrate Dem heard that Manneh and Jabang on or about 2nd day of July 2025, at Sanyang Bunkiling in the West Coast Region jointly stole a bag of cement valued at D510 and wheelbarrow valued at D2,700 being the properties of Ebrima Marena.
When the charge was read out to the accused persons, both of them pleaded not guilty to the charge read against them.
At that stage, the prosecution officer, Sgt 4422 M.J Sallah applied for an adjournment to enable him call his witness. When the question of granting bail to the accused persons was raised, Sgt 4422 Sallah strongly objected to their bail because of the following reasons.
He pointed out that the accused persons were just released from Mile II Central Prison in less than a month for similar offences.
He said that Sanyang Police Station made a formal appeal to them that they have been receiving many complaints with regards to the accused persons.
“I am with the believe and conviction that if the accused persons are granted bail, they will commit similar offences and the police station will be receiving more and more complaints of the accused persons,” the prosecution officer told the court.
The court then decided that the issue of bail will be determined in the next adjourned date. The case was then adjourned to Tuesday 15th of July 2025 and the magistrate ordered that accused persons be kept in remand at Mile Two Central Prison till next sitting of the court.
