Omar Jatta, a German-born hip-hop and Afrobeat star with Gambian parents, is set to return to the 38th Summerjam festival for the second time on July 4th-6th, 2025, in Cologne, Germany.
In a statement from the SummerJam festival, organizers said: “From newcomer to one of the most exciting rising voices in the game- Omar tells his story through music. Born and raised in Germany, he shares honest reflections on life as an Afro-German, blending Afrobeats and Amapiano into a sound that’s fresh, soulful and real, his performance last year already left a mark- and now he’s back to bring the vibes once again, every line he delivers hits with meaning”
His music talks about racism and inequality, the Afro-Germans going through daily blends with African culture. He released his debut Extended Play called ‘Sprachlos’ consists of six tracks, and some of his hit songs are ‘Dreamer’, ‘Bruder’, and ‘Kind’. ‘Roots’, ‘Sprachlos’, and ‘get busy’
In 2023, he won TuneCore’s 2023 Upcoming Act of the Year. RØDE and Hiphop.de partnered with TuneCore to support the contest and helped take Omar Jatta to where many still want to be. The newcomer was able to take the stage at Hype Festival and perform alongside national and international stars such as Luciano, Rema, Black Sheriff, Jazeek, and BHZ.
Omar is expecting to perform with an audience of over 80.000 with his band called ‘Where am from’ to sell African culture. Born to a musical family as his grandparents are iconic Gambian music legends, but more inspired to do music in a living environment where social injustice and inequality order of the day, so he uses music as a tool for social transformation. He is described by music pundits as awakening the consciousness of Afro-Germans.
