President Adama Barrow Holds First-Ever NPP Executive Meeting, Calls for Unity and Grassroots Engagement

President Adama Barrow on Friday convened the first -ever executive meeting of the National People’s Party (NPP) since its formation, marking a significant milestone in the party’s evolution and strategic consolidation.  

Held at the party’s new headquarters in Bundung, the closed door meeting brought together top executives and regional representatives of the party to discuss its direction, internal cohesion and future engagement with the public.

In his keynote address, President Barrow emphasized the urgent need for unity among party members, stressing that NPP’s continued success depends on its ability to remain united organized and focused on its mandate

“Our strength as a party lies in our unity it is not to stay in power what truly matters is making the best use of power when it is given to us,” he said, adding: “it is only through working together that we can overcome challenges, deliver on our promises and fulfil the trust placed in us by the Gambian people”

His Excellency, acknowledged the progress made since the party’s formation, saying NPP had grown from being underestimated to earning the trust of the people and the international community.

The president also underlined the importance of remaining connected to the grassroots, urging party officials to intensity their outreach and community engagement efforts: “We must stay close to the people. Our connection to the grassroots is not just symbolic it is the foundation of our legitimacy and strength. Constant engagement with citizen is critical for building trust encouraging participation and fostering accountability,” Barrow noted.

He concluded by urging the party to open more space for women and young people, encouraged NPP officials to adopt a people-centred approach which involves listening to concerns, delivering on policy commitment and being visible and responsive to the needs of ordinary Gambians.  According to him, such engagement is essential to bridge the gap between leadership and the electorate and to reinforce the credibility of the party across all regions.

The session concluded with a renewed commitment from all attendees to uphold the party values enhance internal coordination and strengthen NPP’s footprint across the country.

Friday’s meeting was seen as a turning point for the party, setting a tone of renewed energy purpose and collective responsibility as it looks ahead to the 2026 political cycle.
