Fabakary Tombong Jatta (FTJ) has emphasized that there is only one Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) party in The Gambia, and it is the one under his leadership.
He maintained that there are no factions legally affiliated with the party’s name.
Speaking at a political rally in Foni Kampanti recently, the APRC leader declared that those using the APRC name as an attachment to their political movements are misleading the public, noting that they cannot contest elections under the APRC brand or logo.
The Independent Electoral Commission recognises me, Fabakary Tombong Jatta, as the leader of APRC after the departure of former President Yahya Jammeh,” FTJ told the crowd.
Supporters loyal to former president Jammeh have branded themselves as the “APRC No to Alliance” group. Although they won all five parliamentary seats in Foni Jammeh’s native region, they claim legitimacy for the APRC name.
“No one else has the authority to use the APRC symbol and logo. There’s only one APRC, and that’s the one under my leadership,” FTJ stressed. “Those of you following them should know there’s no truth in their camp. When it’s time to contest elections, they don’t use our green colour; they don’t use the APRC symbol. They contest as independents. So why are they telling you they are APRC? Honestly, they are fooling you.”
FTJ acknowledged the legacy of former president Jammeh, crediting him for ushering in major national development, such as the establishment of the University of The Gambia, the construction of the North Bank Road, multiple high schools across the country, and the creation of the national television broadcaster.
He said many of these achievements were unimaginable to Gambians at the time, but have had a lasting impact.
The APRC leader concluded by urging the people of Foni to accept that Jammeh is no longer in power, and that he now needs support from others to return to the country.
