Opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) and ruling National People’s Party have, expressed deepest sympathy and sorrow over the passing of Fatou Samba Joofof, Country Coordinator of Gambia Talent Television (GTTV) an online media outlet.
Fatou Samba joof, was more than a journalist; she was a storyteller, a mentor, and a cultural force whose work at GTTV resonated widely. Her signature programs, including “Semester Avenue” and “Road to Ndewenal,” showcased her unique ability to connect with people.
UDP Leader Ousainou Darboe expressed shock and sadness over her passing, extending condolences to her husband, fellow journalist Pa Ousman Joof, the Samba family, and the Gambia Press Union.
“Fatou’s passing has sparked an outpouring of grief and admiration from colleagues and Gambians around the world,” Darboe said. “Her critical role in the media and her passion for her work are a testament to her integrity and humanity,” he said in a tribute statement to Fatou Samba Joof on Sunday, describing her as ‘A Beacon of Journalism and Compassion.”
Darboe highlighted Fatou’s unique ability to bridge divides in a field often strained by political tensions. “She was a unifying figure whose integrity inspired others to uphold the values of truth and balance,” he added.
The UDP called on journalists to honour Fatou’s memory by championing the same principles she stood for. “Her legacy is a reminder of the importance of truth, compassion, and the courage to report with integrity,” the statement read.
The party concluded by invoking the Prophet’s reminder: “Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un,” praying for comfort for her family and that her light continues to inspire Gambian journalism.
For the ruling National People’s Party (NPP), under the leadership of its Secretary General and Party Leader, president Adama Barrow, along with its members and supporters, expressed deepest sympathy and sorrow over the passing of Fatou Samba of The Gambia Talent Television (GTTV), an online media outlet.
Ms. Samba’s passing is indeed a great loss not only to her family, The Gambia Press Union, and the media fraternity, but to the whole country. She dedicated her life to the advancement of press freedom and was hardworking, friendly, and passionate about her work and country.
At The Gambia Talent Television, she was instrumental in mentoring and training many young Gambians who aspired to take up media and journalism as a profession. The NPP extends its condolences to her husband and family.
