Sabally lambasts UDP for Criticizing Gov’t on Jammeh’s Assets Sale

By: Kemo Kanyi

The Deputy Campaign Manager of NPP, Momodou Sabally, has slammed UDP for its criticisms of the government handling of the sale of Jammeh’s assets, saying UDP lacks moral authority to do so.

Speaking on Coffee Time aired over West Coast radio on Monday, the former UDP campaign manager said a greater composition of the Janneh Commission that sold part of the assets was associated with UDP.

“Regarding UDP, it does not have the moral authority to criticise President Barrow and NPP on this Jammeh’s assets issue. When the Janneh Commission was being formed, UDP was part and parcel of this coalition government. UDP was the major stakeholder and they were calling the shots in the government,” Sabally argued. “And even by a casual look at the composition of the Janneh Commission, you will know that the key players are all associated with UDP. Ba Tambedou, who I have criticised and still criticised, is celebrated by the UDP to date. He is part of them,” he added.

The Special Adviser to the President recommended that UDP should apologise to Gambians because they were part of the group that rushed with emotions, with obvious desire for revenge, pointing out that’s what led to all missteps that the country went through. He maintained that The Gambia was plunged into a mess that must be corrected together.

“Let us stop the finger-pointing and name-calling. Let us chart a path to get through out of this,” Mr. Sabally suggested.

Sabally went on to point out that President Barrow’s administration went above and beyond by sanctioning a full parliamentary enquiry into the whole issue that would establish the truth as demanded by Gambians. He commended the oppositions for embracing the cause of the NPP in the saga. “Even the oppositions have now come on board to support this after the NPP took the lead. So, this is a win for everybody,” the NPP deputy campaign manager highlighted.

He urged the youth to exercise patients and allow a parliamentary enquiry for its job, stating the parliament would surely make recommendations after concluding its enquiry.
