Demba Sabally, the Minister of Agriculture, has sharply declared that politicians who join unauthorized protest will be arrested and put in cells, denouncing the presence of Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe and Essa Faal at the recent youth protest.
The minister denounced the actions of these two politicians while addressing some youthful folks in a meeting at Tallinding Bantaba on Sunday.
Minister Sabally says that being at a political position doesn’t guarantee anyone to violate the laws, adding that the laws of the land take precedence over any individual.
“I have seen politicians like Rohey Malick Lowe join the protesters and inciting them. If she repeats that, we will handcuff her and take her to the cells. Being a mayor… if you violate the law, you will know that the law takes precedence over you,” he vehemently stated.
The Agriculture Minister added that they (government) have also observed that politicians like Essa Faal joined the youth protesters at the police stations and Westfield, inciting the youth to violate the laws, instead of advising them to act within the bounds of the laws of the country.
“We are telling them that no one is bigger than our laws. If Essa Faal returns to Westfield for a protest, the NPP government will handcuff him and put him in the cells. No one can make this government fail. No one can frighten this government, and let them know that the President, Adama Barrow was voted in by the majority of Gambian voters,” Minister Sabally warned.
