The Association of Non-Governmental Organizations (TANGO) commemorated the International Day of NGOs.
This year’s theme was “Empowering Grassroots Movements for a Sustainable Future.”
In his remarks at the event, Karl Frederick Paul, the United Nations Resident Coordinator, acknowledged the critical contributions of civil society organizations to human rights, social justice, and sustainable development on a global scale.
“This year’s theme highlights the indispensable role of community-based organizations in driving lasting change. These organizations not only amplify the voices of marginalized communities but also implement solutions specifically tailored to local circumstances. The United Nations recognizes TANGO’s exceptional work in fortifying civil society networks and boosting community resilience. We are fully committed to enhancing our partnership with TANGO, pooling our strengths and resources to accelerate progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals,” he asserted.
Mr. Paul emphasized that this collaboration exemplifies the necessary multi-stakeholder approach to addressing shared challenges. He pointed out that despite facing obstacles such as limited funding, policy restrictions, and exclusion from decision-making processes, grassroots NGOs continue to fill essential gaps in service delivery and advocacy.
“Their relentless determination demands our support through ample resources, knowledge-sharing, and impactful partnerships,” he declared.
Mr. Paul reiterated his commitment to strengthening collaboration with grassroots organizations, emphasizing that the success of the Sustainable Development Goals is dependent on local actions.
