KMC Hands Over BundungCommunity Park

Meeting with the development aspirations of people of the community, the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC), on Saturday, officially handed over a completed BundungCommunity Park to the community in a ceremony held at the Jola Kunda Football Field, Bundung, Kanifing Municipal Council.

Presiding over the handing over of the park was the Deputy Lord Mayor of KMC Binta Janneh who was joined by the EU delegates. The park is set aside for sports and other recreational activities of the people of Bundung.  

Lamin Sanyang, Program Manager of the KanifingEnvironmental Transformation Program (KETP),  extended his gratitude to the European Union (EU)  for funding the project and encouraged the committee members to take good care of the facility.

“The project trained the park management committee and again provided some materials for the sustainability of the park. We therefore urge you to ensure that the park is well maintained,” he advised the beneficiary community.

To allow them to generate income, he said they can hire the facility for those who might want to use it while they use the income to sustain it.

Honourable Sulayman Jammeh, National Assembly member for Bundunka Kunda thanked the Deputy Mayor and his council for providing such a project for them.

“I must use this opportunity to thank the KMC under the leadership of Ahmed Talib Bensuda and his entire council through KETP for bringing such a project for us.  This is development, and if development comes to your community you need to appreciate it and those who also bring it for you,” he noted. 

More so, he applauded those behind the project – KMC and KETP for bringing it to the community.

The EU Representative, Enrica Pellacani, Head of Coordination of the EU delegation to The Gambia expressed delight in taking part in the project for the well-being of the children.

“I would like to thank the project deputy for building this nice structure. It’s important for the EU to be part of the initiative that contributes to the well-being of the children and to provide them with a safe and beautiful environment,” she said.

Notwithstanding, the Deputy Lord Mayor of KMC,  BintaJallow Janneh, in her closing remarks, thanked the Lord Mayor for bringing such an initiative for the kids to nurture their talents that would make them professionals shortly.
