PURA embarks on capacity building for petrol station workers

The Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) is currently on a two-day for the petrol station workers on fire safety and standard operating procedures with fuel pump attendants from different fuel business institutions within the Kanifing Municipality and the West Coast Region.

The training which started on Wednesday will end today and it was aimed at equipping fuel pump attendants with the requisite knowledge to enhance efficient service delivery concerning customers, potential risks at petrol stations, and identify hazards and response methods in case of accidents. 

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the safety training for fuel pump attendants, Mamat Janha representing the Chief Fire Officer of the Gambia Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS) said, training pump attendants on fire safety and safety system are important as pump attendants handle dangerous roles which makes it vital for them to have the required training and competency to be able to maintain the safety system in their work. 

Mr. Janha added that the PURA in partnership with GFRS has organized different training across the country and the training has positively impacted the most populated areas of the Gambia which is the West Coast Region and the Kanifing Municipality on managing fire and rescue services in the area. While noting that prevention is very key 

Mr. Yusupha Jobe, the Director General of PURA said, it is very important for PURA as a regulator to observe and guide the sectors in proper operations and a safe and secure environment. 

He added that they also want to ensure that they are doing their business by taking efficient people and ensuring that those who use their facilities are doing so with utmost care.

Muhammed Hydara a Consultant also spoke official opening of the training saying the gas stations are one of the most dangerous places someone can be but not everyone knows how dangerousit is because of the hard work PURA has started in terms of training.

He applauded PURA for the fantastic job in operational safety and safety proper in fire response.
