Old Yundum MP thanks Gambians for re-electing Barrow

A pro-National People’s Party’s National Assembly member has thanked Gambians for the trust having in re-electing President Adama Barrow, who was sworn in, yesterday, for the second term in office.

Abdoulie Ceesay, National Assembly member for Old Yundum Constituency said: “Please allow me, first of all, to thank the Almighty God for granting us the opportunity to witness a day like this, a historic inauguration, despite being far away from home, I must express appreciation to show you all how excited and loyal I am to the Country and the Head of State, the President of the Republic of The Gambia, Secretary-General and Party Leader of the National People’s Party.”

“It is with great pleasure to thank the Gambian people for having renewed their trust in HE Adama Barrow on his second term in office. Such trust represents invaluable support to him in the discharge of the weighty responsibilities awaiting him in the years ahead. We know the oath he has just taken “before the people”, sanctioned by the provisions in our Constitution, in the presence of the Chief Justice, Speaker of the house of Parliament, representatives of the people, Heads of Various Government Departments and respective heads of government from other countries, is of a highly symbolic significance on two counts,” he added.

“It is an expression of absolute loyalty to the institutions of the Republic from which he cannot derogate; and it is an irrevocable personal commitment to performing the duties of Head of State as outlined in our Constitution.

“As in the past, these principles will guide his actions in attending to the Gambian people during the five-year term of “Great Opportunities” beginning today. Therefore, I wish to pray to God the Almighty to stand by him, guide and protect the president in this monumental responsibility assigned to him by the Gambians. I seize the opportunity to also express our unconditional support to him at all times. Happy Inauguration to all Gambians,” he greeted.
