Faraba Kairaba Women complain of water shortage

By Mustapha Jarju

Women gardeners at Faraba Kairaba in Kombo East District have expressed dismay over water shortage problem that hit their community, as they called on the government through the Ministry of Agriculture and philanthropists to help address the problem.

They lamented that it is part of the major challenges that they are currently facing when it comes to the issue of the wells in their Garden because those wells usually dry, “this is a difficulty we are facing.”

“We have raised our voice to the government and philanthropists but there is no help to remedy the situation of water shortage in our Gardens. We as women go into the bush to cut lugs and fence our gardens and after fencing, we spend all day in the garden, when you left home after ‘Fajr’ prayer you will not go back home until evening time,” they complained.

The women complained further that despite the shortage of water they are facing, cattle too will not allow them to benefit from their labour as they always come to destroy the gardens.

Binta, a woman Gardener from the community said when she lives her family at home in the morning she will not be back to the house until after Maghrib prayer just to safeguard the garden from destruction from the livestock animals.
