A message of Peace

Republic of  The Gambia

I, Lamin Sanyang, a citizen of the Republic of The Gambia, wish to congratulate the newly elected president of the Republic of The Gambia on behalf of all Gambians, members of the Gambia Unity Party and on my own humble behalf.

While we, as a nation, go through this period of transition for the administration and while the joy of victory and the trial of defeat is fresh in our minds, I wish to remind all Gambians about our solemn promise we made to our nation, a promise that is well grounded in our national anthem, which is the creed of our nation.

In it, we made a promise to The Gambia, to put our personal goals, passion and interest aside and strive to maintain the superiority of our national interest over ours.

We have now concluded an election cycle which was conducted democratically, freely and fairly to the best of the ability of IEC. It’s in this connection that I will be remiss if I don’t thank the IEC for the remarkable effort they made to conduct such an amazing national election under such circumstances.

Further, I would like to restate again that our common goals and aspirations for our country extend far beyond the party line. The collective aspirations of our nation through which all Gambians can march forward to, should be the focus of our masses.

There are, however, those who remain bitter and malcontent about the outcome of the elections, albeit, in principle, the past must be put in the rear view mirror and people should swallow their pride and maintain a calm and collected disposition to ensure that peace and stability is maintained in our nation.

As we sing in our national Anthem ”We strive and work and pray”, I am convinced that the fervent prayers made by all Gambians to ensure the elections are conducted in a peaceful, free and fair manner were accepted,  Alhamdulillah.

We are now mandated to follow prayers with the hard work required to surmount religious, sectarian, linguistic and ethnic differences and help develop our nation for ourselves and our future generations,  Insha’Allah.

Ameen
