Speaker of the National Assembly has commended the parliament members for displaying another unique professionalism throughout the house four-week ordinary session.

Speaking at the end of the session on Tuesday, Speaker Maryam Jack Denton said the sessions ended with “lots of important business that witnessed the sitting on a number of records of bills.”

The proceeding includes ministers from different portfolios in bringing bills for consideration by the Assembly. This is a unique sitting of the Assembly Legislative Ordinary Session having members to discuss and debate on relevant issues that needs the attention of the executive,” she told lawmakers in Bnajul.

Also speaking Honorable Sedia Jatta, National Assembly member for Wuli West described the parliament as “one of the most important houses in the country.”

“The essence of Ministers to be here is to share with the parliament how their policies are being implemented and reacted to what has been said,” he added.

However, he said that permanent secretaries cannot speak on behalf of ministers, we don’t need people to come and take note but we need the ministers to interact on policy matters. He added that “so it must be established once and for all that we cannot do without the ministers adding that this must be put into practice if not we will be in problem.”

Honorable Ma Janko Samusa, nominated member, said he wants to inform the member that as far as we are all advocating for ministers to present, it will be impossible to have all the ministers present in parliament.

Honorable Allagie S. Darboe, said parliament and executive should work hand in hand to guide the policies and direct the nation towards development.

He said: “nobody is saying all the ministers should present during the adjournment debate but low turnout of the ministers should be mentioned. No member should condemn that.”
