Jokadu Darsilami gets multipurpose centre

Construction of multimillion dalasi an Agro multipurpose centre worth has begun in Jokadu Darsilami and it aimed to help build and promote work of women and youths.

United Nation Capital Development Fund in partnership with Dasilami Ward Development Committee laid the foundation stone. It is expected to help youths and women to have skills and contribute to national development.

“The project worth D1,200, 476 million and the work is for a period of 45days,” a statement said.

Sana Sonko Regional UNCDF Coordinator for NBR Darsilami Ward Development Committee for their active support to the implementation of projects said it aims at transforming the living standards of the population. He noted that the cash for work provides employment opportunities for women and youths.

Malamin IL Bojang Chairman Kerewan Area Council thanked the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) for complementing efforts of Kerewan Area Council in providing much needed support to the ward, citing capacity building on procurement, contracting procedures, record keeping and monitoring among others.

He noted that the construction of a multipurpose agro centre for Darsilami ward would help to enhance skills acquisition. Ousainou Jobe Village Development Committee Chairman said the project would provide opportunity for youths in Darsilami ward.

He assured of women and youths’ willingness to encourage enrolment. Cash for work scheme would help women and youths to partake in the project and enhance their economic development. The VDC chairman thanked Darsilami Ward Development Committee for the foresight and the family for providing land for the construction of the project.

Seedy Manneh Community Development Assistant thanked women for their demonstration to participate in cash for work, adding that the participation of men and youths to be vigilant and asserted that cash for work would change the mind set and value the importance of savings.

He said skills acquisition would empower women and youths to contribute immensely to community and national development.

Amie Secka on behalf of cash for work beneficiaries said the intervention of UNCDF would strengthen stronger understanding and cooperation among stakeholders.

Essa Lowe of Daru Lowen said cash for work has transformed economic activities and empowered beneficiaries to have bank accounts for the first time.

Tamsir Chune, councilor Darsilami Ward said the project will operate within the framework of transparency and accountability saying that the project is apolitical, and it aimed to accelerate development.
