Ministry of Local Government slammed over Latrikunda headship row

The Ministry of Lands and Local Government has been fiercely lashed out at by a group of Latrikunda German who accused the Ministry’s top officials of been bias in the town’s headship row by declaring Pa Omar Faal as the new head.

The camp of Pa Omar Faal and that of Suwaibou Faal have been at a logger head for more than a year over who should take the throne of town’s headship following the demised of the town chief.

The matter was taken to the Kanifing Municipal Council last year to help broker solution. It was however referred to the Ministry of Lands and Local Government who had declared Pa Omar Faal as the right person to succeed the throne.

But dozens of people supporting Suwaibou Faal opposed to the Ministry’s verdict and vowed to challenge the decisions. They said they will not respect the verdict and pledged to shun working with Pa Omar Faal.

Mustapha Danso, who supports Suwaibou Faal, said: “I belong to the right camp which is Suwaibou’s camp because I know what Alkaloship is. The other camp is not a justifiable camp. They don’t know (any) legitimate right to be asking for the Alkaloship. His lineage is the Alkaloship of Latrikunda from his great grandfathers.”

“This alkaloship is not a political thing. Musa Drammeh has definitely politicised the whole issue, I have been watching a rally of President Barrow and I saw Pa Omar there. He is their buddy.

“We will go to the Minister and ask why he made wrong decision. What he based his recommendation on is all fallacy. He cannot be a dictator on top of us, we will not accept it,” he added.
