One of the National Assembly members has made a promise to do worst with the draft Constitution if it is eventually reintroduced or re-table in the National Assembly without amending or follow some of the recommendations made by the MP.

The draft constitution that was tabled before lawmakers in early September was defeated after 31 National Assembly members voted in favor of the Bill to be passed while 23 members rejected it.

Meanwhile,  Abubacarr Jalllow Justice Minister has assured Africa Union (AU) of government ‘s plans to reintroduce the draft constitution to the National Assembly. He also revealed that a process of dialogue with all political parties is going on in order to build agreement on all the contentious issues surrounding the draft constitution. International bodies amongst them United Nation (UN) has also welcomed the plans to reintroduce the draft constitution.

In an exclusive interview with Honorable Alhajie Sankung Jammeh, member for Foni Jarol said “I do not reject the constitution for the sake of rejecting it, I went through it with people who have knowledge surrounding the constitution and if they should bring it without amendment we are going to do the worst.”

He foamed over the draft constitution saying “We have our reasons why we rejected the draft constitution but Impossible can be possible if it is put in the right way. That is if the amendments are made,” he added”.

According to him the draft constitution is not for a particular party or individual, but for the entire nation and what benefit the nation that is what they are going to abide.

“If they bring it the same way as it is when it was rejected, I swear that ‘am going to show wonders in this world. What I will do is going to be a history in the country. Our constitution is for us the Gambians not for any other country so whatever doesn’t suit us, we will throw it out,” he noted.

He went on to elaborate on reasons for rejecting the draft constitution saying “when it comes to the side of the Judiciary, in the draft they make themselves stronger than any other institutions, which is undone and looking at the citizenship, selecting the President and many others.”

He pleaded to the international bodies saying “let them do away with Gambian constitution, the constitution is going to govern Gambian people and whosoever living in the country, so they will not listen to outside world over the draft constitution. The 1997 constitution is the most suitable and the best compared to the draft constitution,” he lamented.
