NORA Friends donates learning material, others to Dasilami elementary school

NORA friend in Norway and founder of Jokadou Dasilami Nursery donated furniture, learning and teaching materials including football to Dasilami Lower Basic School.

The donation held on Saturday indicates NORA continues support to education sector to registered success in attaining quality education.

The school authority at Dasilami Lower Basic School said the NORA support to education help the transition rate to grade 1, revealing that children from nursery are better prepared for grade

Officials commended teachers for supplying them with students, whose performance make a difference.

Ansumana Fofana, project coordinator of NORA Friends in the Gambia has highlighted the importance roles the donor attaches to educational development especially early childhood education.

He recalled that the   partnership started in 2010 and board of directors was set up in Norway to support in resource mobilization to respond to the growing needs of people.

He commended the donor for the construction of standard three classrooms block, kitchen, toilet and borehole and also paying for training of teachers at Gambia College.

Fofana noted that school feeding program contribute immensely to retention of children, revealing that the school has graduated 8 batches to Dasilami Lower Basic School.

“NORA Friend supported the community with vegetable garden and standard structure to facilitate monthly clinic for immunization and other health needs. The donor support to school feeding program has contributed to boost enrolment and retention.

The payment of teachers, cleaners, care taker and training of teachers at Gambia College help teachers to provide quality education,” he said.

Malamin IL Bojang, chairman of Kerewan Area Council commended NORA Friends for their support in complementing government efforts in the education sector.

Chairman Bojang also commended parents for feeding the school, noting that the development of school call for concerted efforts towards the attainment of quality education.

Lang Kinteh Cluster Monitor, deputizing for Regional Education Director for region 3, stated that the support will help to strengthen teaching and learning at school.

Lamin M Fofana, acting head teacher of Dasilami Lower Basic School expressed delight for quality education provided by teachers making     student to perform well at grade 1.
