Tanji fishmongers call for hygiene environment

Fishmongers in Tanji have called for hygiene environment as they said their business environment is connected to their health.

Speaking to the voice in an interview Bondu Fatty a fishmonger saidf: “we need a hygiene environment because our environment is connected to our health. We just bear the condition because we are choice less,” he said

Some people get sick due to environment and that they need a conducive environment to run their business because they that is where they earn their daily source of income, Fatty added

Fatou Sillah also a fishmonger said they face so many challenges in the sea side but hygiene environment has become a key challenge, adding sometimes home responsivities can make someone to take a risk of sitting in that unhealthy environment and by right.

”Tanji is a sale point for food and visiting area for some tourist so the place has to be clean always,” she said.

Tida Manneh said she has been in the sea side for 20years now as a fishmonger but their condition of a hygiene environment is getting worst by day, adding that every time they voice for help but yet still the government could not give them a perfect help concerning about their environment which is a key challenge for them.

She explained that they face other challenges like fish shortage because majority of the fisher men are from Senegal and when they go back to Senegal, many fishmongers suffer.

Marima Jallow said that conducive and a healthy environment is all they need and also a comfortable place to run their business noting that, they just sacrifice their lives but the condition of the sea side is not healthy and sometimes, some fishmongers carry their babies with them.

Ebrima Saine and Lamin Cham also told voice that, government should support them with a perfect waterway because all the waters from ice plan pass through that area and
